Lao PDR, Thailand supports the establishment of a nuclear weapons-free zone in all regions, with the goal of eliminating nuclear weapons completely. Mr. Maris Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who attended the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Related Ministerial Meetings in Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic, attended the meeting of the Commission for a Southeast Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) or Bangkok Convention to follow up on progress and exchange views on protecting the Southeast Asian region free from nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction. At the meeting, the Ministers supported the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones in all regions with the goal of the total elimination of nuclear weapons, and welcomed Timor-Leste's intention to join the Treaty. In addition, the meeting supported interactions between ASEAN member states and external partners, with Thailand ready to be a bridge builder to promote constructive discussions among all relevant par ties. The Minister of Foreign Affairs attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting with Representatives of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), which was attended by Professor Emeritus Dr. Amara Pongsapich, Thailand's Representative to the AICHR, who followed up on the AICHR's efforts to promote and protect human rights in ASEAN. The Minister reaffirmed the leading role of the AICHR and the Thai representative to the AICHR in fostering an equitable and people-centered region, and exchanged views on important developments in various areas related to human rights, such as the promotion of the rights of children, women and persons with disabilities, and human rights in various dimensions, including business, the environment, and cyberspace.
