KEF calls for ILO’s balanced perspective toward S. Korea’s labor market reform

SEOUL, The head of the Korea Enterprises Federation on Monday called for the International Labour Organization (ILO) to maintain a balanced perspective toward South Korea's labor market reform measures, asking the organization to consider viewpoints of all stakeholders. In a speech delivered at the 112th session of the ILO's International Labour Conference in Geneva, KEF Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik expressed hope for the ILO to "consider the unique circumstances of each country, including South Korea, and maintain balance regarding the diverse perspectives of labor, management and the government." Sohn, who also serves as the chair of the food-to-entertainment conglomerate CJ Group, was at the annual ILO conference representing South Korea's business community. He also emphasized the need for labor market flexibility and cooperative labor-management relations in order to improve corporate management culture and establish a virtuous cycle leading to job creation. The chairman also pledged for the KEF to part icipate in social dialogue regarding labor market reform with a sense of responsibility to ensure related government measures are successfully implemented.
