Flooding in the eastern region, Trat-Chanthaburi, affecting many areas

General

Flooding in the eastern region, heavy rain throughout the week in many areas, while the Prime Minister called an urgent meeting to discuss flood management on August 5. The flood situation in Chanthaburi Province is still concerning. Although the water level in the Chanthaburi River has stabilized and decreased slightly, if there is no more rain, it is expected that the water can be drained to the sea in time. However, the outer districts are severely affected, especially Na Yai Am District, where the water level is high due to heavy rain throughout the night. Meanwhile, the first mass of water from Makham District and Khao Khitchakut District has passed through the city, but more is still coming. However, the water drainage is smooth, the water flows strongly and rapidly. Economic areas in the city are slightly affected, with some areas flooded and waiting to be drained. Trat Province has had continuous rain throughout the province since July 25, causing flooding in Khao Saming District. The aerial view s till shows flooding throughout the area, especially in Tambon Sato, which is high and low, making drainage difficult. The Trat Governor and the Provincial Red Cross set up a mobile kitchen, preparing cooked food and drinking water, and distributing them to flood victims who are trapped in their homes and cannot leave their homes because the water is high and flowing fast. Meanwhile, the mass of water from Tambon Sato is flowing into Khlong Khao Saming, causing Highway No. 3157 Saen Tung-Bo Rai to have strong water flows that cars cannot pass through. However, Lt. Col. Thammanat Prompao, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, is still confident that he can control the water situation in the eastern region. Of the seven reservoirs, four are overflowing, while the other three need to store water for use in the dry season. Prime Minister Settha Thavisin revealed that currently, many areas are experiencing continuous rain and flooding problems. He has therefore ordered the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperat ives and the Ministry of Interior, as well as security agencies, to integrate their work in water management for the entire system. On August 5, he will attend a meeting to integrate short-term, medium-term, and long-term water management plans at the Royal Irrigation Department to find measures to prevent flooding in many areas in the provinces. He has also ordered the Ministry of Defense to work with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to send military personnel to help manage flooding, but it is necessary to look at areas that repeatedly flood. Prevention is better than finding solutions later. Source: Thai News Agency
