Bangkok, 'Big Tao' is not worried about arresting the country's first prosecutor for demanding money to help with a case, believing it is a personal offense with clear evidence. Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, deputy commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, revealed yesterday about the arrest of a prosecutor of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Prosecutor's Office. He said that the victim filed a complaint with the Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) that the prosecutor demanded money to help with the case. The NACC asked the NACC police to handle the case, which took two weeks to plan and gather evidence, and to request an arrest warrant from the court. While arresting the said prosecutor, he was cooperative and did not resist. From the initial interrogation, the accused denied the charges, claiming that the 250,000 baht he received from the victim was money to pay off debts. The accused has now been granted bail with a cash bail of 400,000 baht. As for the legal proceedings, the NAC C is currently considering whether to accept the case itself or send it back to the police to prosecute. The police confirmed that they are handling this case based on the evidence and did not harass or act outside of the evidence. They admitted that they have never arrested a prosecutor who committed a crime in the past, and this is the first time. As for whether there are other victims, they have not received any reports yet. There is news reporting that the cause of this case was that the victim received a mortgage on the land from a party, with whom they had made a loan agreement, and the debtor used the land title deed as collateral. Later, both parties had a problem, so the debtor went to file a complaint that the victim stole the land title deed, which reached the prosecutor's office. Then the victim was contacted by the aforementioned prosecutor, because the victim's and the prosecutor's children attended the same school, so he offered to help with the case by demanding 200,000 baht from the victim. The victim agreed and filed a complaint with the NACC, and a plan was made to collect evidence starting with the first payment of 50,000 baht, and an appointment was made to pay the remaining amount at the prosecutor's office. From the investigation of the investigation team, it was found that the said prosecutor had held the same position for an unusually long time, even though his friends of the same age had been promoted and posted to other provinces, but the suspect remained in the same position. Therefore, they are preparing to retrospectively check the various cases that were previously ordered to be indicted and not indicted to see if there were any irregularities. In addition, it is believed that the targets that the prosecutors went to demand money to clear the cases must have had someone choosing the various cases for them, and the police are currently collecting evidence.
